Topic: 1967 Bug Engine Swap?

I was wondering if there is an automatic engine/tranny that will fit the 67 Bug's chassis and engine compartment other than the corvair engine? if so what are the web sites addresses? Thank you very much.

Re: 1967 Bug Engine Swap?

HHhmmm kinda gottta answer this ? Key numbers here were 67 volkswagen ? And key word was Covair << Being a chevy product
first automatic,s in bugg,s are availiable Kinda rare but bugg,s came with auto stick,s << I think they suck but im told that if kept in working order they perform well . Being a 67 makes your buggy a classic first year 12 volt but it is on a swing arm Rather than IRS suspension and 67,s and 68,s were first 2 years 12 volt system, on a swing arm suspension . in 69 went too IRS Your 67 should be kept all original the 67 being worth more than the 68, and considerd a classic . But if auto is all ya can do have it done by some one in the know << As like he has a collection of buggy,s and does all his own work . Usually work,s on others bugg,s etc etc Now for the Corvair thing ! This is as badd as Porsche thingy ? <, Somethin some one did in 1966 i guess and some Red Necked chevy freak seen it and has repeated the same tired old story about how fast this buggy was with a porsche motor or Corvair in it and it would out run a V8 Mustang << Cause being a rednecked chevy freak cant admitt that a bugg could smoke a chevy but it,s fast enough with Corvair motor he could out runn ford mustang ! << truth out runn v8.s but this is due too racing technology primarily off road theres a whole industry that has sprout up around air cool buggy,s here in So. Cal. <, Primarily but in Vegas ETC . Now it is true that Porsche are some what compatible in there mechanical operation,s and some of technology comes from Porsche ? The really fast bugg,s are Aftermarket based on Type 1 motor,s but Type 4 motors << Being only motor,s compatible too older Porsche << Ok in General speaking The Porsche , AKA Corvair thing is just kinda wack >> As In Old Drunkin Red Neck Chevy Freak Story ! Ive heard it so many times im at point i dont even think it really ever even happend ? Kinda like the Lunar Landing  conspiracy or some thin ? where Govt staged Lunar landing out here in the dessert just ta bilk tax payer,s for Billion,s of dollars ? Yipp same drunk red neck told me Corvaired >>  volkswagen story? Told me story of Lunar Landing Conspiracy ? LMAO Buy a subscription too Hot Vw,s Magazine keep that 67 all original , and if ya just have too have an auto stick there out there requires few modification,s ? Sean

Sean,

I have no problem with the original stick shift in my bug. I just wanted to know if it was possible...and I wasn't talking about the auto stick. I'm keeping my bug all original. Thank you very much. Here's a link that I think you'll find very interesting. When you get there look for VW conversions.

Thank,s for the link there . Yeah didnt wanna have ta admit this but truth is i probably know a little about Corvairs ? Not that i would be caught dead workin on a chevy product . Or Admit that my uncle is or least use ta be Vice President of a Corvair club in South Carolina . Think at one time he told me he owned like 6 of um . either way just about every year he drives one from South Carolina out here too California . I will see if momm give me an E-mail address for him try ta contact him on auto trans too buggy swapp . Lil Corvair trivia here did ya know some of the Monza Spyders were actually Turbo charged back in the day ?   Sean
