Topic: A Question about a '73 Squareback...

Was there a '73 Wolfsburg Edition, 412 Squareback that came stock with air conditioning, or something close to this idea.  My friend swears by it, calling it the best squareback ever....I can't seem to find any info on it.....
tell me does it exist? Or are we just crazy...
Thanks for you help,
Krypticol

Re: A Question about a '73 Squareback...

Krypticol: I don't think that anything from 1973 would have had the designation of "Wolfsburg Edition". That's a much more recent marketing strategy to try and sell water-cooled models. Airconditioning? Yes, (See Option Code M573).
Take a look at some of these sites:

Re: A Question about a '73 Squareback...

The Wolfsburg edition came about in the mid '80's as a way of VWoA to try ( in vain) to associate the cars with their German heritage. Unfortunately they never looked farther than the badge on the fender.
I worked for VW at this time and there was a whole campaign associated with the "Special Wolfburg Editions"  It was a dud but the emblems were cool. It eventually spread worldwide and the Wolfsburg Edition cars became dressed up promotional models with nicer interiors and wheels etc.

we figured out what his mystery car was....A V W 412 LE Wagon....
with a wolfsburg emblem on the old steering wheel....nice little ride!
