Topic: 30PICT on stock 1600 DP?

I gotta ask, desperation rears it's ugly head. 1600 mex. DP, 3K
miles, stock, new 34 PICT STILL SUCKS!!!. Been here, got
suggestions to aim accel. pump nozzle, tried, still sucks. Please,
don't need discussion of other possible problems (there ain't any),
just want to know if anybody's tried a 30 PICT on one of these
bigger motors. How did motor do? What airjet and main sizes did
you use? I'd expect a drop in top end performance due to lack of
flow--I ran a 1500 SP on a 28 PICT for awhile once. I'd gladly give
up speeds at and above 70, we hardly ever need 'em for our driving
anyway, for a return of 1000-2500 rpm consistent, predictable
performance. Giving up an idle cutoff solenoid is the least of my
worries! I have a perfectly good Solex 30-3, am awaiting arrival of
manifold adapter.

@@ It will work fine. Are you running an 009 or stock distributor ? I
like the 74 style svda distributor best w/stock carbs. The 009
doesn't advance off idle at all and leaves you kissing the
windshield as the engine bogs.

I am running that set up. 30 pict and a vacuum advance distrib.
currently running a 116 main jet. I live a 6000 feet so air here is
thinner then most places. Engine is fine runs out OK

im running a 30-2 I think it is not the solex but the Brosol/solex on
a SP 1641 engine and after getting the idle adjusted it seems to run
very strong with the 009 dist. I have not tried to do 65 mph yet
though...

thankyou, too! down here in KS elevation 1000ft, 1500 motor was
using a 124 (that's from memory, which ain't what it used to be,
ha).

fred! kick it up there! our old dog will run up to 80 on the flats
with no wind! (this done for testing only). we had to have a hill
and a tailwind to hit 75 before. daughter daily drives a LOT of 65,
tho. thanks so much for the info, i feel i have a chance back for
the car we loved before!
