Topic: man, I hate wiring problems

got a 59 bug, all stock, 6v system. can't get the turn signals and
stop/tailights to work. no shorts found, fuses good - must be a
bad ground.

what's the best way to track down a bad ground, assuming that's my
problem.

are there other things i should be looking for?

appreciate your help folks

Re: man, I hate wiring problems

My first bug[s] were all 6v. I don't recall an electrical component
going bad, although they do. All the problems I had were due to bad
connections. 6v just doesn't have much 'poop'. I used to clean the
fuses regularly as well as many other contacts. When this stuff is
new everything is fine, as the years go by 6v has problems
penetrating the 'patina'. 12v is less prone to this.

Re: man, I hate wiring problems

Hi, From diag both stop light and indicators are on the same fuse it
is in the block of 4 fuses, the one with 3 black wires one end and
black/white and black red the other. Check the fuse, most likely
needs a good clean up and the fuse holder too. Tail lights could be
another fault a poor contact somewhere is most likely. There is a
good diag for your car at VINTAGEBUS.com. Good luck...........Jol

Re: man, I hate wiring problems

my suggestion is as follows:

make sure that the grounding for the light fixtures is not only the
ground by default (bolting them to the fenders for ground) but that
there is also a grounding wire for each fixture that is securely
attached to the chassis somewhere on the "firewall".

also, make sure that all the light fixtures are grounded well, not
just the one's that apear to have the problem.

start there and if this doesn't solve the problem we can dig deeper

--good luck
