Topic: wont start!!!!!

ok i just bought my first splitty bus.put a new alternator,coil,and
optima battery in it,cause it died on me on the way home in seal
beach back to s.d.from pomona sunday!!! it will start on a jump and
run but as soon as i turn it off, nuthin!!!!!plus i now cant get my
(both)headlights,and or brake lights to work.my signals are now
working again but sometimes it seems to get power surges when
accelerating and blows all my bulbs,any info would be sweet.ive
owened bugs and a thing so am pretty familiar with dubs.also if
anyone has a 65 bus fuse block schematic there willing to shed light
on would be nice thanks again....im want to be rollin!!!!!

Tom: Take a look at the wiring diagrams for your Bus on
http://www.vintagebus.com/

Now I'm assuming that you have converted the bus from 6 volts to 12,
or someone else did? Did you get all of the bulbs changed out? Does
the alternator have an internal or external regulator? Power surges
almost sounds like a bad regulator, bad alternator, or both. Yeah, I
know the alternator is new, but get it checked at pep boys, autozone
or some such place. It doesn't sound like the battery is getting any
juice to recharge it. Obviously you need to check all of the
electrical connections to make sure they are clean and tight. Good
