Topic: Studs are out, new ones are in

Thanks to all that helped provide the proper sizing for the the 1600
SP exhaust studs. I drilled the old ones out yesterday evening,
chased out the threads with a "bottoming" tap, and installed the new
studs. At least I now have a supply of the correct copper nuts, so I
shouldn't have to go through this for quite a while. We also re-hung
the motor last evening. You just gotta' love a stripped down long
block and the open working space offered by a Baja bug. The wife,
daughter, and I just picked it up and slid it into place. Four nuts,
properly torqued, and the motor is installed and awaiting the
remainder of its new or refurbished components.

My one regret is that I've not been able to find a local source that
can powder coat the intake manifold for me. Or buy a chrome one.
(That's what the wife wants).

Another four weeks or so of fiddling and tinkering and I think we'll
be ready for the summer show season.

Thanks to the many that provide all the good information on this
board.

Best regards,

Gerry Cullan
