Topic: Deck lid help please!

Recently bought a VW that has deck lid stand-offs installed. I've
decided I don't like them too well and would like to put the lid the
way it was originally. However, previous owner installed
progressive weber 2bbl carb and the deck lid won't clear the carb
without the stand-offs. Is this a normal delema? My options seem
to be to change the carbs (and manifold) for some lower profile
set-up, or to cut a clearance hole in the deck and maybe cover it up
with the license plate cover. Anybody know of any other trick or
solution. Thanks so much!

Re: Deck lid help please!

that is quite the delimma you have but it is that way because of the
carb. one thing you can do if you just want to close it a little
more is to make the holes on the deck lid stand off a little bigger
and shave some off the backs so it can be closed a little further.
if all else fails new carb is all that is left. that carb is to big
to close the deck lid all the way as i'm sure you know , but if you
do the above you can close it up a little tighter

Thanks for the post. I figured I'd have some work ahead of me if I
want to close the deck lid all the way, but was hoping for some easy
route. Happy buggin.

> @@ I have run a progressive 2bbl on many cars w/a stock decklid
closed all the way. The only problem I ever had was the air cleaner
rubbing slightly. You need to run a small rectangular 1 or 1.5" tall
air cleaner.
You may need to clearance (bend) the rear of the cleaner down just a
bit but it should work fine. Also there is a slight adjustment you
shound be able to make on the manifold itself by loosening the
intake clamps and swiveling it forward a little. You may need to
modify the support that goes down to the fuel pump mount by bringing
it up over the hold down nut and installing another nut. Sometimes
you'll have to replace the fuel pump stuf w/a longer one.
