VW conversion/Dollar rental car in Mexico

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know any information about who manufactures the
volkswagen powered fiberglass bodied car that you can rent in Peurto
Vallarta Mexico? We recently stayed in Neuevo Vallarta and Dollar
Rental car company had a Volkswagen based (not a dunebuggy)car that
had an open "T" top,no doors,4 hard plastic seats,and was open (no
windows)I saw several but the majority were red in color.
I have been on every web site known to man and can not find any
information on this car. It was legal to drive on the street,had
head and tail lights and was really cool. If anyone can help I'd
really appreciate an E-mail about where they are made ,sold or
marketed.
