Topic: building a budget engine

I'm currently rebuilding a 1600cc dual port dual relief engine. I
would like to make some minor modifications concentrating mostly on
low end torque, but I don't have a lot of money to play with so the
valve train will remain stock, and I will probably keep the stock 34
PICT-3 solex. It's going to be in a Manx "style" buggy so it will
see plenty of off road excursions with an off road style 4 to 1
exhaust system. I was also thinking of a bigger bore size & maybe
mildly ported heads with stock valves.

any comments or suggestions?

Re: building a budget engine

hey bob i have a 1600 in my 70 bug and it is great motor for what i
can tell. parts are some what cheap for it and easiy to come by so
the small budget thing should be no problem there are many things i
could suggest but a good set of headers and and good cam should give
you what you want or some large valve heads shop around and get a
good coil and ignition system and it should preform fine for you. i
would suggest spending the money though and getting rid of that
34pict3 carb speacilly if you are useing a 009 dist this will cause
nothing but head aches for you
