Topic: new beetle airbag light

I'm having a small (?) problem with my Beetle. My airbag light is on
because I have a bad spring in the harness of the side airbag in the
seat. The dealership has told me it would cost $500. plus to fix it
because they have to rebuild the seat itself. Do you know of a way
to disable this airbag or the light? Or could any of your contacts
help me? As far as the airbag is concerned, if it never goes off I
don't care. I was hit by of those several years ago and never want
to go through the experience again!!! Please any advise that you can
give me would be greatly appreciated.

Re: new beetle airbag light

Evvie: Can't help you much, but I know that depending upon your
location it can be either legal or illegal to disable an airbag
system. Some jurisdictions will let an owner do it but not a
licensed mechanic...and the mechanic may not want the liability on
his/her shoulders. Check with your DMV. Incidentally, not knowing
what kind of accident you may have been in previously, perhaps that
"bad" experience with an earlier airbag may have just been "good"
enough to let you be here today to ask the question. Ok, no more
preaching. Good luck. Clancy
