carbs & heads

I have a dune buggy running an 1835 w/ stock heads dp, 100 cam,
progressive carb. Looking at changing the carb out to a single 48
idf. My question is... is it necessary to go to a larger valve heads
or the ones I have will work but will not have the extra performance
if I upgraded.
