Topic: HOW DO LATE MODEL PORSCHE PASS DEQ

Hello - My understanding is to get an air-cooled VW to pass emissions
tests you have to radically lean the mix and advance the dist (so
all the unburnt fuel doesn't go out the pipe). But if you drive
around like that, shortly after the test you will burn your VW motor
to a crisp. My question is, I have never heard any complaints or
comments from air-cooled porsche owners about passing DEQ emissions
tests, why is this? How on earth does a porsche engine pass DEQ and
not have to go through all the pains and tweaks a VW has to?

Technology. The recent production air-cooled Beetles made in Mexico
that use modern electronic engine management systems ran clean
enough to pass US standards up through at least 2001. However the
manufacturer never submitted them for import, so it doesn't matter
how clean they run - they can't pass as a later year because they
are undocumented aliens. (They couldn't pass the SAFETY standards,
but the emissions were not the problem.)
Allowing the import of the newer engines to update the old cars isn't
what they want. They want them off the road. (And so does VWoA - so
you'll buy something new.)

<<Meaning all my problem,s are Govt related ? Actually the type 1,s
would pass emmission,s out here no problem . Even built some stock
1776 motor,s that passed emmission,s testing out here with no
problem,s . The law,s here are progressive . <,Meaning we started
out that 65 and back was smogg exempt then every few year,s this
changed till like now it,s 73 and back is smogg exempt . But as the
law progressed so did the testing ? Meaning they use ta just stick
oxy Co2 sensor up your exhaust ? Now they actually put the car on a
treadmill and test it under a load . Air cool motor,s are actually
pretty efficient motor,s ? The main reason that they stopped import
intoo this country was not smogg issue ? Was federally mandated
safety issue,s on the beetle . <<Meaning they had to change the
car,s too keep up with the safety reg,s ? So here comes the rabbit,s
? Sean
