Topic: kit car info

Please help me! i'm interested in buying a vw bug with the intention
of driving it for a couple years, and then buying a kit to make it
into a porsche speedster. i know nothing. what year bugs should i
look for? engine size? kit makers? any bits of info would be
appreciated.

Stay away from SuperBeetles. They use a strut front suspension. If
you want your Speedster to look authentic, find a 65' or earlier
bug. If you want the updated suspension get a 69 or latter bug. The
early bug uses a swing axial rear and link and king pin front like
the original speedster. The later has a double jointed rear
suspension that handles much better and a ball joint front that is
also superior to the link/king pin setup. If you want to run the old
style wheels you can use the brake drums from a 67 Beetle. Good
