Beetles to Lhasa?

Hi Jol,

Glad you liked the country: it's in a bit of a turmoil right now, but
that doesn't keep us from bugging along. I'm pretty sure that
wasn't my beetle you saw, but anyway there are around about hundred
beetles in kathmandu. Including one guy's I met the other day who
had a '59 and claimed his was the first car that was carried into
Kathmandu (I have yet to confirm that!) on coolies' backs when there
were no motorable roads into the valley. And thanks for the good
luck - the trip isn't "on" as such yet, but is a remote
possibility.

If anyone has any info on previous Beetle to Lhasa trips, please let
me know, thanks!
