Topic: Hub Cap Clips on 61 Bug

Well I have a set of five clips and rivets and a tool to install
them. I did not recive any instructions on how to use the tool. Can
any one tell me how to install the clips. Thanks for your prompt
reply.

Charlie: The tool is usually designed to be mounted in the jaws of a
good sized bench vice. The notch at the bottom keeps the tool
straight in the vice. The top part of the tool should have a
recessed area into which the head of a rivet is placed. Now
carefully place the new clip over the rivet and let it rest in the
slanted cut out at the top of the tool. Now, you should have already
drilled out the old rivet from your wheel, and hopefully you were
careful not to make the hole too big. Time to set the wheel over the
rivet-clip-tool. It really helps here to have an extra set of hands
to hold the wheel while you guide everything into place. Once
everything is "aligned", get out your big ball peen hammer. I also
like to use a good sized punch. Wack the end of the protruding
rivet. It should start to "mushroom" over and lock the clip into
place. You will need to wack that rivet fairly hard several times to
get a good set. After it's fairly well set, turn the hammer over and
hit the rivet with the ball to dress up the worked end of the rivet.
Sometimes that's where I used the punch to finish the work. Pretty
straightforward work and very rewarding after you've set a few. It
never hurts to have a few extra rivets around in case you mess one
up in the early efforts. I hope this helps. Good luck. Clancy
