Topic: 5 stud rim sizes

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a set of widened 5 stud rims for my buggy and have
found that the stud pattern is different to my hubs. I have had
buggies for years and had no idea that there 2 different wide 5 stud
patterns. The only other clue may be that the rim centers are
riveted to the rim rather than just welded which may indicate they
are off very old VWs(maybe pre war).

Does anyone have any clues what types of VW's and what years these
might suit as I now need to resell them and don't want to steer
anyone wrong.

Thanks in advance

Re: 5 stud rim sizes

I suggest you measure up the actual pcd, or the distance between two
adjacent holes (center to center of the hole) and post this
dimension. Someone might be able to help. I assume you are in Oz so
they might be Ford Prefect or early Vauxhall or simmilar fitting.
Early ('38 - '55?) British Fords had 5 stud pattern which you can
fit to a VW hub, but the holes are not perfect and the bolts bear on
one side of the hole only. I think they are eight inch PCD. Not a
satisfactory arrangement. These wheels came in 16inch and 17inch
sizes. Cheers, Brian.

Re: 5 stud rim sizes

early 1960's rims are stamped w/ a "T enclosed in a circle" near the
hole for the valve stem also marked w/ "4Jx1.5" CobraTurbo wrote:
