Topic: Samba forums

Do any of you guys visit www.thesambaforums.com often? A pretty good
way to spend some time. I've got to say I prefer to get my advice
here, but whenever I'm considering joining the war on whatever brat
of the month (insert pseudonym here) I go & have a look instead.
Particular fave is their "stories forum"; there are some cool
threads & stories to read there. One great one on getting pulled
over in buses or bugs... anyone else taken a look lately?

Re: Samba forums

Sam: Yes, I visit there occasionally, but usually find more useful
info here. Too much "stuff" to wade through on the Samba. But I
really like their search function, and their classified ads and have
found some real treasures for sweet prices. It seems that there is a
certain amount of bullet-proof ego necessary to visit/participate in
many of the discussion forums there, however. In many ways it is
like you're not really a member of their "club", so be careful what
you say. I've had the same feeling when I visited some of the bigger
California shows recently...great selection of cars for show, great
selection of parts for sale/swap, but some of the comraderie from
the 80's and early 90's seems to be missing. More focus on making a
buck. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary....Some of the threads
on the Samba are very entertaining and can grip you like quicksand
if you're not careful! I'm glad the Samba exists (we need variety to
spice up our lives) and wish the regulars there nothing but the
best. Ok, that's my 2¢ Clancy

Re: Samba forums

Samba forums there are some idiots and some really cool people. I do
visit it and post messages. The Classifieds are very hard to beat,
you have to admit that. Everett Barns does a fine job in my
opinion.

Re: Samba forums

Samba is the place to go if you like speaking to people who only want
to get high post numbers. The people there are pretty much jerks
with no jobs who like to post all day.

The Samba is great for classifieds or if you want to wallow in the
very worst element available on the internet, but I almost never use
it for tech help. If I want entertainment, I go to The Samba. If I
want information on how to fix a problem with my car, I go to
ShopTalk Forums. If I want to just think about VWs for a few
minutes without having to suffer through any bullcrap, I come here.

Re: Samba forums

I go to the Samba forum to look up past advice on particular things
or read other mechanical or body work problems people have had. but
sometimes it might be days to get a response. Here ol Clancy,
Yancey, Darby and Sean are quick on the trigger even though most of
the stuff is way over my head they have been patient with this ol
rookie. And I do appreciate what they do.
