Yancey: Trick question....It sure shouldn't take an hour! But the way
I figure it the total time would be the same:
25 mi. @55 mph = .454 hours times two for the 25 miles after the
"rest stop" = .9091 hours + the rest stop = 1.9091 hours + 50 mi @
65 mph = another .769 hours for a grand total of ~ 2.678 hours!
In the second case---> 50 miles @ 65 mph = .769 hours + hour for rest
stop = 1.769 hours + 50 mi. @ 55 mph = .9091 hours for the same
total as before...2.678 hours.
THE BIG difference is that you get to take it out on the little twerp
a lot sooner if you use the first itinerary (~27 minutes vs. ~46
minutes to the rest stop!!) Thanks for the "gedanken" exercise!
