I think you answered your own question: " or "Porschaaaa" like the
rich people like to say? " These are the same kind of people who
like to talk about the shape of the vortices that come off of the
impellers of their 944's turbo, and how it affects the driveability
of the car. I have no actual knowledge one way or the other, but the
fact that folks of that persuasion say it Porchaaa really makes me
want to say "Porsche." Just my .02.

There's most probably no *true* right or wrong way to say it; but my
money is on the latter - actually, a bit more like "porsher", from
some German people I have spoken to. It seems hard to get it out
just right without the correct accent. But I'm not certain - any
experts out there who know for sure? Enquiring minds, etc.

The reason that I ask is because I went to the auto show in Detroit
last Monday and at the Porsche exhibit someone asked one of those
model spokspersons that probably don't know a thing about the car
one way or another anyway, and she quickly quipped reasuringly that
it was Porschaaa. Maybe her boyfriend has one. I felt secure that
I heard it pronounced one sylable Porsche all of my life. I'm
sticking with that. Sometimes things have to change to suit the
times. Like when newscasters felt uncomfortable saying to America
that NASA had sent a probe to Uranus. So they started saying
URINE-us. So much better!
