Topic: Need Vokaro kit car info

I have acquired an original Vopard Industries Vokaro kit car
(original fiberglass body mold and windshield mold - untouched -
with all the documentation from Vopard on assembly)from my uncle
that has been lofted to his garage ceiling since the day he brought
it home from the Vopard showroom in Suisun City, California.

He told me that this was the last one they had and they were going
out of business. He thinks it was 1981 or 1982 when he purchased
the kit. He never did a thing with it. It still has the molding
seams around the body and no cuts have been made to the shell.

Does anybody know anything about these or what they might be worth?
My uncle sure doesn't know anything about this thing, and neither do
I. The instructions say to put in on a 68 bug chassis, but I'm
wondering if, since this is the last kit sold by Vopard, maybe it's
better to keep the shell intact or should I build it??? It is MINT.

Does anybody have suggestions or information that can help?

Re: Need Vokaro kit car info

I've been occasionally searching the internet for references to the
Vokaro, and finding very little about this little kit car. There was
an unbuilt body available in San Diego about a month ago on ebay -
and that was the first I'd seen for a while. I believe it was listed
for $100 and had no takers. I used to have (over a decade ago) an
article in one of the kit car magazines about a award-winning
build-up of a Vokaro. The builder noted that due to the thin
fibreglass, he somehow added additional layers of glass to the
inside of the body to help it hold up better.

I've always thought it was an interesting little design.

The Vokaro was later built by several people. Last I know of was
Redhead Roadster in Walla walla Washington in the early 90s. They
fit on cut down vw frame of many years and others with modification.
You better be small, very small as they have little room in the
cockpit. They are not valuable as dune buggy type cars go. I have
one I built myself from a Walla Walla kit. A blast to drive on empty
forest access roads, can you say sideways travel? Comments
