Topic: Radio code reset

I have a 98 Passat and just replaced my car battery. I entered the 4
digit radio code after the 'SAFE' message appeared, but the code is
not recognized. After 2 tries, it goes back to 'SAFE' and I can get
it to reset to '1000' after 120 minutes. Does anyone know if/how I
can get the code changed/updated? The local VW dealership says I
need to buy a new or reconditioned radio for $225 USD+. Any info
would be great. Thanks! mss

Be sure to read the whole threads...These may give you some hints.
The dealer should be able to reset the code for a lot less (but still
relatively expensive considering that it isn't rocket science!) than
buying another radio; if not, try another dealership. Be sure to
bring your proof of ownership (of the vehicle/radio) with you to the
dealer. Good luck.

Re: Radio code reset

I have the same problem in my 98 Passat
The dealer gave me the code and they tried but it is not recognized.
How can I reset the radio or bypass the code altoghether? At the VW
dealership they tell me there is nothing to be done except try to
brake it in at a car audio shop or replace the unit.
Any advise will be welcome.
