Topic: Scooby Doo Van

I took the kids to see Scooby Doo this afternoon.... I know what you
are thinking... What the hell kinda fathers day gift is this? What
can I say, I am a prize. Anyhoo... the movie was very true to the
cartoon, but THE VAN WAS A FORD!!!! What was Warner Bros thinking??
Have none of them ever been to a VW show?? They could drop a rock
and find one.(Thank God Shaggy sounded like Shaggy or all would not
be sacred) -- Wendy

I thought the van was actually some kind of weird RV type thing (at
least in the animated series)?

Toyota made a van that looks very similar to the Scooby van. I think
they copied the cartoon myself as it is real close.

That must have been a neat van. Even if it's not aircooled...
*Sigh* No Scooby Doo for our movie day here at high school. I can
hear my principal now: "Shaggy promotes drug use" etc... not to
mention that wagon... so instead we are off to see Spiderman.
Dammit.

I wish I had a picture of the vans I mean, but I don't. They are
late 80's or maybe early 90's.
Movie day when I went to school was Reefer Madness or some
documentary, or any other boring thing you could think of. I am
surprised to see that you actually get to see any "real" movie
myself. How much is a movie in NZ? (just curious) I do not go to
movies much myself, but they are about $8.00 here in Seattle from
what I hear. Craig

Movie Day, in school? All I remember is blackboards and an
occassional health flip chart. (Oh, there was one movie on taking
cover in an atomic bomb attack.) And who is Scooby Doo anyway?

Re: Scooby Doo Van

They always try to give us some kind of blockbuster-type thing
(Mission Impossible 2 last time). A movie costs $NZ10 for me, which
would make it just under $5 in the States. And that's always on the
rise... yet the movies don't seem to be improving... rather the
opposite. But 600 teenagers WILL make Spiderman fun, I guarantee it.

Maybe the original one was a Dodge van?

Yeah, I thought it was a Dodge also.

I'm not sure, but I suspect, relative to many other countries, VW's
are doing quite well in NZ. Most seem to be unrestored daily drivers
that owners have just kept up to scratch over the years. I see many
beetles taking their owners to work every day. There is a '58 living
just down the road from me. They are still quite a common site on
the roads. You used to be able check traffic in Auckland on a
web-cam if you are wondering if there are any VWs about, it was at..
http://www.yellowpages.co.nz/webcam/ but they seem to have closed it
down at the moment.

VW national events are staged each Easter. Last year the VW nationals
were in Nelson and friends who went reported it was a great success.
Next year they will be in Wellington (Where I live) so I am looking
forward to this. I am a member (not very active) of the Wellington
VW club http://www.kombinedvwclub.orcon.net.nz/ which has a small
but dedicated core membership. In Auckland the scene is much
bigger.

So, there is quite a bit of VW activity going on. You should come
here more often.
