What's the point of this? Are we supposed to crush all the
volkswagens, because volkswagen used forced labor during WWII. Do I
feel bad about it, yes I do, and it was wrong, and they should make
some form of reparations to those people they wronged. The world is
full of wrongs. Should we stop driving Fords because Henry Ford was
a Nazi sympathizer?
Or shut down Dupont because they sold explosives to the Germans and
helped them rearm after WWI? Japan used forced labor too, what about
them? And lest we forget the good old USA used forced labor too, it
was called slavery. All any of us can do is rememeber the evil that
occurred it the past and try our best to make sure it never happens
again.

Re: Please read this

I believe this lawsuit was settled with this individual several years
ago, since I remember reading this online a while back. In addition,
I remember Volkswagen AG paid a very large amount of cash to victims
of its forced German occupation in exchange for exemption from
future lawsuits. Volkswagen AG is today working with the German city
of Berlin to provide millions of (U.S.) dollars to the city's
coffers in a form of reparations for that country.

Remember that Volkswagen was established, built and funded through a
government decree, but only thrives and exists today through the
will of the people... much like Germany, for that matter. The past
shouldn't be forgotten, but it shouldn't be a visible scar on the
company today.

Re: Please read this

GM already had a controlling interest in Opal when Hitler came to
power. There is no direct evidence that I know of linking Al Sloan
and others to the loosely organized group of German industrialists
that were so instrumental in Hitler coming to power, but it is
certainly true that General Motors built many of the trucks the
Wehrmacht rode triumphantly into Poland, "Die Juden zu straffen." As
long as it could, the German Government paid GM/Opal faithfully for
the vehicles built.

Meanwhile, GM in Detroit got a contract to build Liberator motors (as
I recall this was the good ol' Pratt and Whitney radial, but I may
have that little detail wrong). Liberators were used in a raid which
largely destroyed the Opal plant. Some of this ships almost
certainly had GM engines in them. The U. S. government, of course,
was able to make good on ALL its contracts with GM.

After the war, Opal AG was able to successfully sue the United States
government for reparations. Thus, GM made a profit on most of the
trucks, made a profit on the bombers, and collected indemnities
after the war for damage caused to their factories by their
bombers...

Re: Please read this

The point of this is for you to have something to read. If you dont
want to read, then dont read it. You obviously read all of it, so
it was of interest to you. If you didnt read it then be quiet.
Dont get all worked up over nothing! Nobody suggested that you
crush all volkswagens. I just wanted you guys to read it since this
is a Volkswagen General forum, and the link is VW related. It just
reminded me of VWoA's attitude. The way they go after the little
guy and with threats try to squeeze everything out of them.

The world IS full of wrongs, its people like you that make everyone
think that doing the wrong thing is OK since everyone else does it.
Im not attacking VW only and forgetting about Dupont, GM, Ford,
USA, etc. But I wouldnt see the sense in posting that info in a VW
forum, so I just posted the VW related one.

"All any of us can do is rememeber the evil that occurred it the past
and try our best to make sure it never happens again."

The problem is that it keeps happening. There is so much racism in
this country, so much discrimination, some working conditions are
barely above slavery, etc. I guess someone isnt trying thier best.

a great american, and i want to be a great american, so i want to
own slaves too. anything taken out of context is wacky, that is why
if your work conditions are barely above slavery, you should join
the UAW union, then you can build over priced unreliable cars at
over priced wages. slaves built quality into their products or they
would be killed, the ultimate motivation. obviously this isn't
right, you can argue almost anyside to every point and appear to be
right. enjoy your lunch!?. bye

I didnt know illegal immigrants could join unions and if they can,
they are far too afraid of deportation to do it.

guy? or trailer trash? maybe kkk member or neo-nazi?

I've heard many times that before 1941 Coca-Cola provided mobile Coke
canteens for US troops AND mobile Fanta canteens for the Germans.
Free enterprise knows no limits, eh?

Re: Please read this

Thanks for the food-for-thought. It was good to bring it to our
attention, it's just hard for us to understand when you present an
anti-VWish link without explaining yourself.
That said, you are going to post similar info on GM/Ford forums as
well, right?

Relax, Air-cooled. I was merely expanding on what Steve had written,
and in trying to keep the discussion topical and the dialouge
flowing, I offered my insight... unlike yourself.
