Topic: Generator problems

Just finaly installed a new generator in my '69 bug. Thought
everything was cool, and then notice my
generator light was on. Hmmm I polarized this thing best I knew how.
(maybe I didn't do it right,
couldn't tell what was what on the voltage regulator) When I got the
generator the guy said "better
put a new voltage regulator in at the same time". My father in-law
said "hell no". What's up? I plan
on taking it to my local electric motor repair dude and have him
check voltages and stuff, but thought
I would check this forum and see what would happen! The bug runs
great, but just isn't charging.
Thanks for any help I can get!

Hi Andrew,
Did you double check to make sure you rewired evrything right. Check
your ground wires and make sure the ground is attached to your gen.
I think it is brown and atytaches to the small screw towards the
rear of the gen. Make sure all the wires are connected to your
regulator. Finally there are letter designations on both the
regulator and the gen. Make sure these wires match up. Opps! One
more thing, make sure the ground at the battery is tight and in good
condition. Let us know if you still have problems.

Here is an anwer 4 you... I have a vw brasilia but mechanically it´s
the same as a bug. Well, my car wasn´t charging and it was running
as normal. The mechanic told me that the problem was caused because
the armor (the internal part of the generator) was losen, so due to
the fact the engine wasn´t charging. The mechanic is now changing
the armor and also the rotors inside it. That was the solution for
my trouble and I hope It´s the solution 4 you!
