Topic: Advice from VW owners...

I am considering a VW bug as primary transportation and have been
reading some on the internet about air cooled engines. I'm hoping to
get input from beetle veterans. If I drop a new engine and
transmission into a bug and start putting 1,000 miles a month on it
am I getting myself into trouble? Assuming proper maitenence, will I
find myself breaking down??
Please post or email,
Thanks!

Hi Newkid,
VW bugs can be great for daily drivers. As long as you do the
routine maint. and keep everything in good shape you shouldn't have
any problems. Bugs were built to be dependable and easy to repair.
If you drop in a new engine and tranny you just make sure everything
else works okay and you're in business. Luck

Hi Newkid,

Jim's right. I did over 1000 miles a month in my old 1971 1300 cc
for about 8 years, up-graded to a 1600 cc, and now have that same
engine in my 1962 Beetle. I still do at least 200 miles a week just
to work and back, and zip around at weekends too - no probs!

I try to service the car about twice a year, just to check the oil,
plugs, brakes etc - but that's part of the fun! It's best if you
can do the work yourself, or have a mate who can help.

Have fun.
