are these the vents on both sides of the rear window on the inside?
if so,they are available from wolfsberg west, i bought 2 sets almost 1 1/2 yrs ago for my 72 super and another project. my old ones came out ok, but were very discolored from the years of sun exposure... not white anymore. i wasn't aware they were hard to find
i have the versa strut on my 72. love the look. handles great but... I have had to replace the inserts 3 times over the past 10 years. for some reason they rupture and rust inside the lowered strut tubes. They use the standard rabbit insert made by cofap. I spoke with John at topline about this but he had never heard of them rupturing in this fashion. I'd chalk it up to a bad set but 3 different sets???
just my 2 cents on a recent experience. trying to post often so others can beware.
i recently had the displeasure of doing business with this outfit and couldn't be more displeased. I spoke with the shipping coordinator, Alyssa? who was very helpful, but then transferred me to the manager chris who hung up on me when I explained why I was cancelling my order. crappy parts, crappy customer service.
You get what you pay for.
after reading bill may's posts on this subject i replaced my metal line with 1/4" brake line in 20 min. the body was off the pan but it would only take a few more steps to complete with the body on. MUCH easier if you had a second pair of hands...which i did not. good luck
Steer on over to TopLine parts. Jon Chabot runs a great outfit. Everything you need for your super. Beware of Cofap strut inserts however. Cofap inserts only last 1-2 years in my super. They freeze and rupture making them HELL to get out. This has happened to me twice...
If there is no slop in the box, leave it be.
Again, avoid brazillian parts, head over to the classifieds at thesamba or even flea-bay to score nos german parts. Well worth the effort.
Not worth it unless you are tired of changing/adjusting points. All my cars have points and not one has ever left me stranded in 28 years. Kept in proper running order, they work great for stock applications. Most of the claims of performance increases when switching to electrronic ignition are greatly exaggerated. Search the web for more info.
I posted in another forum also but got no responses...
My 72 super had an aftermarket sunroof installed when I bought it 14 +yrs ago. It was made by C.R/Laurence. It has always leaked. I replaced the gasket and it still leaked. Now I want to replace it with a better one since I am taking the car down to metal for paint.
. What are my options?
I searched the classifieds, some have an original sunroof clip, but pricy and geographically undesirable.
CRLaurence no longer makes replacement gaskets but have another sunroof kit for the bug.
I also found ragtop kits which are very $ but look really cool.
Anyone else making aftermarket sunroof not too cost prohibitive?
Thanks
Mine was over 550lbs with the glass and doors.
Hmmm flexible cable too clear gas line ? Obviously a throttle cable comes too mind ! LMAO
The deal tho is that the fuel line may be cancerd with rust or kinked !
Watch for gas leak's in the Tunnel .
As too 20 minute fuel line's being replaced ?
I ever mention Ive rebuilt several pann's and tunnel's on these car's ! LMAO
Or that I was once abducted by Ailien's in the Desert !
Yeah I was an Ailien abducteee , We barbequed Carne Asada and did Tequila shot's ! LMAO
Sean
What?
I got my technique from Bill May over on the samba. My engine was out as was the front inspection cover and shift coupling cover.
Search "bill may or fuel line" on THESAMBA. I'd be happy to answer any other questions. Body off if a bit easier but Bill claims to have replaced one in a 60's era bug in the driveway in 15 min!!!
Try a broken clutch cable chucked in a drill like you'd do for clogged heat riser tubes. Also I have to disagree about replacing the tunnel fuel line as a "hard job" I just replaced the fuel line in my 72 and it took 20 minutes.
It's MUCH easier to get the sending unit out by pulling the tank in a super but possible without it if you first remove the fresh air box for rotational room.
I "third" that notion. The same thing happened to one of my 72 supers. I went thru 2 master cylinders (brazil, etc...)before I bought German. The cheaper ones do not last long and leak frequently. Pay the extra and buy german.
I think I remember seeing a VW motor mount referred to as Hermes- which adapted an air cooled VW motor for marine use. Just a thought...
