To find out if one of the brake lite switches are bad just unplug them one at a time.....if you unplug one and the lites go out then replace THAT switch and then recheck....

I think he made a vague statement to that effect a while back, he kinda said he THOUGHT of it first... lol

At one time I thought Al Gore was just full of shit, but lately I am starting to become a believer.....Al, I am sorry, I think you were right from the beginning, this world is getting WAY too hot...I took today off to come home to my air conditioning and do the dishes as a nice surprise for my wife. This world is getting too hot because we have way to much concrete and asphalt and not enough trees, also all the heat from the chimneys of everyones houses, and hot exhausts from all the cars.....cutting down all the rain forests is not helping any either..... Al, please accept this as a public apology for not believing you.............Thanks again for inventing the internet...

You can use the three prong switch, you just dont need the middle prong.

The fresh air box water drain is probably stopped up causing the water to back up and run into the windshield air vent and then running down to the floor vent, and out the hole......

OK, heres the deal.....I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and it started right away and ran good, I heard from a trusted source that the car would RUN the way the sensor wire was cut, but would not start, the wire was long enough to get caught in the cooling fan so I assume it got caught in the fan and was severed while he was driving to my shop...a VERY good bit of luck for the customer as it saved him a tow bill, lol

I believe you guys are right....I will explain now....A customer DROVE his Golf in and wanted me to check it out because it would die once in a while and sometimes when he started it it would sputter around a bit and then run ok.....I didnt find anything wrong but when he went to leave it would not start at all.....after he left the car with me I looked at the crank sensor and the wire to it was missing a section of wire about 4 inches long, like it had been cut in two places....there is NO way it could have have happened at my shop and I cant say how long it has been cut....(a little twilight zone music here) So thats my story, I have a new sensor ordered and will let you know what happens after I install it.

I am posting this in General so I dont offend the air cooled forum police...lol To make this short, does anyone know whether a 2001 golf GTI will run or start with the crankshaft position sensor unhooked....I will explain later....

No picture, but the cable goes in to the arm from the inside and comes out the outside....

How long to figure it out? Well I had changed the carb because it was total CRAP, I had checked fuel flow from the inlet line and flow was good, what fooled me was the pump looked pretty new, so I put a nice new blue coil on it and took it down the road, high rpm in fourth, sput sput sput........felt JUST like fuel starvation, back off a little would run fine for a while....so i figured what the hell its GOTTA be the pump, and thats when I found it....I HAVE found SOME after market pump blocks that were too thin at the base causing excessive fuel pressure because of the resulting excessive rod extension so I always mike any new fuel pump blocks. Some day I will tell you guys about the Autozone starter that cranked the engine over backwards.....
