You could try a set of Wolfsburg West's thick silicone gaskets. They have enough crushability to make up for any uneveness in the head or cover, and they're reusable and permanent.

I spent hours trying to formulate a method to get the hoses into the pillar on my '66. As it turns out, all I needed to do was to push the hose down the hole and it slipped right on the nipple. Just like magic. I'd try that before messing with coat hangers, dremel tools and swear words.

Those of you who ordered the rubber valve cover gaskets from Wolfsburg West a few months ago and were sent ones that were of inferior materials were promised that re-formulated ones would be sent out. I got my new ones today. They look the same as the others but I trust that they're better.

There are two versions of this valve. One is as shown in Clancy's photo and Bently Manual. That version had the fitting that screws into the fuel pump. A second version has straight fittings for fuel pumps with a straight nipple fitting.

Re: Brakes (7 replies, posted in Technical)
4 bottles of fluid? It has to be going somewhere. You have to be able to see where it's going. The '72 has a dual system. Do you not have brakes in either half? I assume you know that you have to adjust the brakes before you bleed them.
If your system is tight and sealed and you're not having any luck bleeding the "regular" way, it might be time to buy / borrow / rent a pressure bleeder (best) or vacuum bleeder (OK), or just take it a brake shop. But if you take it to someone else to do, insist that it only be worked on in your presence. Just to make sure they're not doing something half-assed or taking shortcuts.

It's not that they aren't the correct size-42- it's that the hold down won't fit. The last one I installed came from Carquest hold downt fit OK but that was a year ago.
burrhead
The hold down fits on the ones I've gotten from Batteries+

I think that anything compatible with gasoline is probably compatible with parts cleaner. The part number is 113-127-405 but I doubt that anyone sells them any more. It's not really needed and can be safely eliminated/bypassed.

Re: What is it? (5 replies, posted in Technical)
When that happened to me, it turned out to be the brass accelerator pump tube in the carburetor throat had rotated out of position and was holding the choke in a partially closed position.
It could have been something as simple as a dirty/plugged air cleaner or the distributor went slightly retarded.

You'll get fervent opinions from both camps (do a search for Oil Bath Paper Filter) but in my opinion, both types do an admirable job when clean. However, the oil bath's performance remains the same when it's dirty whereas the paper filter's effectiveness decreases greatly. And it doesn't take long at all for either type to get dirty.
Best advice is to go with whatever is original for your engine because the proper fittings and hoses will be there. If you switch types you may have to add a hose or plug an extra one.

(re)Read post #7 on Page 1 of this thread. If you really can't get it in that way you'll just have to remove the Bowden Tube. It's easy to do, just bend it.
You really seem to be making a major project out of a process that is really simple.
