Yeah my 69 burned for a second time August of 08. I sold off everything I had for that car. Right now I am busy with school stuff, but hopefully next summer I can get started on my 57. As for the Bolts um they are finished this year and looks like some major changes are coming. Tebow is Tebow. The classes I have are General Shop, Small Gas Engines and Wood Shop. I am busy getting ready to start a guitar making class next year. Happy Holidays to you guys. Chat with you in the coming year.

Hey Burr and guys. I am back after being gone for a few years now. Wow how time flies. My 69 is gone sold it to a guy that flipped it. Got around a thousand out of the car. Insurance paid about 8 thousand after it burned. I bought a 99 GMC Sonoma, but I still have my 57'. Maybe next summer I can start working George. I have moved about 700 miles to Nor Cal so I had to put new tires on the 57' in order to pull it to our new home in Half Moon Bay, CA. Talk to you guys soon. Oh and I got a new job obviously, I teach shop in high school.

You guys are confusing. The size of the thread is most familiar with a lot folks. Aren't head stud nuts 10mm and 8mm?

You could get a surprise doing that! I knew a guy that lost fingers doing something similar.

Tom remember that it's 3000 miles or 3 months which ever comes first on your oil change. It's not just the mileage...

I remember scrubbing white walls with Ajax when we had our 56 Merc. My dad always had us help wash the car. Very very nice job on this one.

Tell me how is the whole world messed up for a few. I see a few messed up and a world of wonder and amazement. I have had my year this past year too. Lost an uncle, a cousin's husband and a job. Working two jobs now to make up for it. And yes I am thankful to find a job in this mess. Not to mention my car burned twice and broke a spindle on the freeway. If you look around you can always find tragedy and blame the whole world for it. I don't have my bug to drive but I am loving my GMC Sonoma, the PO took excellent care of it and it has AC!! The cup is always half full not empty...

Okay, so Jordan thinks he knows it all. I teach shop classes and we do a unit with batteries. We use a video that shows people that have hooked up jumper cables and had the batteries blow up. The best I can figure is that the last connection does spark. Although it's a small spark, it's still a spark. Some experts recommend that you connect the negative to a bumper or some part of the car that can make electrical contact thus moving this spark away from the battery. The hydrogen is coming out right above the battery, a spark or lit cigarette is enough to flash back into the battery where there is a concentration of hydrogen. It does dissipate in the open air. These are not stories handed down by legend. Safety is the most important section in any shop class. If you don't have the means to check your charging system then go to your local Autozone or Kragen and they can test your system. These stores may have other names in other parts of the country. Weasel words? Very educational...ha.

Oh and if your alternator isn't producing more than 14 volts you have a problem. You need at least 14 to charge the battery. Diodes are the key, if you have bad diodes your alternator is no good. Voltage regulators are built into the alternator.

Personally I like the guy that checks his battery with a lit cigarette in his mouth. The gas coming off of batteries is hydrogen and yes it doesn't take much to explode, so if you think you can get away with not being cautious with charging or a running engine around the battery then go ahead and pretend no gas comes off them. BTW there have been people injured seriously when attaching jumper cables to batteries. Not only the explosion but the acid causes great bodily harm. Good luck gentlemen...

Your alternator should be giving 14.5 volts in order to charge the battery. Either it isn't charging or you have a drain or short.

They still make those. I have bought those many times.

You need to do some research before you make that call. You will not be able to buy the real article under 80 thousand.
