Topic: Clancy Remembered

We (Darren; Volkswebbin Admin, and Volkswebbin Mods: Mike “Bookwus”, Tom B., Jim “JamesDagg”, and Nick “Bug In My Nose”) wanted to update Volkswebbin members regarding “Clancy” Aschbrenner….longtime Volkswebbin member, friend, and “silent” moderator.

Approximately last October/November 2009 Clancy found out he had pancreatic cancer (which was in a pretty advanced stage at that point)…and due to the necessary treatments & physical demands Clancy felt that his visits to Volkswebbin would be very infrequent.  We're sure that many Volkswebbin members would have liked to have known…but it was Clancy’s desire to keep things private…and not to burden everyone with this information.

At about 11am Thursday morning Clancy passed away.  Typically persons that are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (in the latter stages) are usually given 2-3 months…Clancy & his family were very fortunate and had 10 positive months.

As many of us know…Clancy was a very patient, kind, and thoughtful person…always willing to help folks out with their Volkswagen problems both on the forums & via private messages…and it was always fun when he shared his personal Volkswagen experiences from over the years!  He was a very very knowledgeable Volkswagen person…with a special knowledge of older air-cooled VW’s (mid-1960’s and earlier).

Please join us in taking a moment to remember Clancy…and send his family some positive thoughts during this difficult period.

Thanks,

Darren, Mike, Tom, Jim, Nick

Re: Clancy Remembered

His absence has certainly been felt here.  His contributions and wit are missed, and will be missed...certainly a loss to the Volkswebbin' community and so much more so to his family and friends.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Clancy Remembered

For most of the time Clancy was on Volkswebbin, he was the "King" of this forum....If he didnt know the answer to an inquiry he damn well could find you an Url that would....He was one of the few people in this world who understood my weird sense of humor and I am going to miss him very much....I would have loved to meet him but I really felt like I knew him just from reading his posts. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Thank you Clancy for making MY life a little bit more fun and teaching ME a lot about Volkswagens and more importantly how much just ONE person can affect the lives of SO many people in such a positive way........Thank you Clancy...

Re: Clancy Remembered

Clancy helped us all with our VWs, and his VW helped bring him some joy during his long illness. Even a week before he died his wife reported how some "Bug therapy" helped. He could no longer drive, but was treated to a ride in his beloved '65. She noted, "Didn’t help the pain, nausea, fatigue, or weakness but certainly put a smile on his face!"

I'm sure Clancy is smiling now, and knowing that will help his wife and family cope with his loss.

Re: Clancy Remembered

I still miss Clancy and I dont think I ever will get over losing him.... My lesson learned from this is to NEVER take the people you love for granted. The way life is set up is that NOTHING lasts forever and loved ones can be taken at any time...One of my customers told me a story that I will never forget. His wife worked the night shift and usually came home by 7AM and go to bed while he was in the shower, he would usually get dressed and leave for his day job around 8AM....USUALLY he would just go on to work, but THIS day for reasons he cant explain he went into the bedroom and woke her up giving her a kiss and telling her he loved her. He got a call around 3:30 or so from his daughter who just got home from school telling him that she thought something was wrong with her Mom because she wouldnt wake up...Turns out she had died from some fluke heart problem. He told me how lucky he was to be able to tell her how much he loved her before she passed away. He doesnt have a clue on what got him to wake her up and tell her that on that particular day but he was grateful for that chance.....So tell your loved ones you love them everyday, I started doing that with my teenaged sons a couple years ago and one day I was talking to my 18 year old son at his workplace and as I was leaving I WANTED to say "I love you" as I left but I didnt want to embarrass him so I didnt, as  I was getting into my car I hear "I LOVE YOU DAD!" from my son with about 4 of his friends standing around. I will never forget that moment.... He wasnt embarrassed to let his friends know that he loved his ole Dad....

Re: Clancy Remembered

Yes, I've gotten one with an embedded link to a site in Italy. I also deleted without taking the bait.

Re: Clancy Remembered

I got one as well.  I'm not sure where our personal e-mail address's got "stolen" from.  I clicked on the link...and my internet browser warned me that the site was suspicious...so I didn't go any further.
