Topic: Webber carbs

I have a 1968 bug with auto stick. This vehicle has two webber carbs on it & it is a pain to start & keep running when you first try to start it. In the summer it isn't too bad . I have to wait & let it warm up for awhile before I attempt to put in gear because it will stall. I have heard you must balance these carbs & the equipment is not cheap. Also what should the rpm be for this car?. Thanks for your help.

Do your carb's have chokes on them?  If not, your engine will always be hard to start in the cooler/cold weather.  If they do have chokes...then maybe they are out of adjustment, or are not operating properly.

If this is a dual carb setup...synchronization of the carbs is an important part as well.

As far as idle rpm.  On a manual transmission I usually have my idle around 900rpm (I think officially it's supposed to be a bit lower).

Idle rpm on an auto stick may be different...but probably close.

Hope this helps,

Re: Webber carbs

Without chokes, synchronized or not, they'll need some throttle to keep them running until everything is warmed up.   Thats just the nature of the beast.

Without chokes, if they don't require your foot on the pedal to start, then your idle is probably set too high anyway.

Thanks for all the replies on my carbs. I will try this when I get one of those gauges
