Re: abandonned?

just lurking in the shadows

After all my years messing with VWs I finally learned something I didn't know
thanks to a '55 transporter factory repair manual
the shifter has to be vertical when in neutral
I kept messing around trying to get the shifting right in our '58 single cab
I adjusted the shifter all over the place
It kept kicking out in first I thought the transaxle was shot
once I followed the rule he now shifts great again

'57 bug "BlackBerry"
'58 type261 single cab "Ruf"
'86 vanagon syncro "Syncro da Dr.Mayo"
and way too many project waiting

Re: abandonned?

I couldn't get on the site for a few days, but I imagine most of the classic VW's are parked or stored in the northern climates.

I just drove mine for the first time in a few weeks. It ran great and it was probably happy that it was not abandoned in a strange place. It was moved to someone else's property after an attempted theft, and I had not had a chance to get out there in some time.

Re: abandonned?

I'm busy building a 1641 for spring.  Also got new ball joints pressed in, and my front end disassembled for a disc brake kit that will hopefully go in soon.

I think the site being down for a week probably helped with the "lull" in new posts more than the fact that everyone's cars are inside for the winter wink

Re: abandonned?

Oh, and about the dark side...

I like to sit on there for hours and pour over the classifieds, but as for the forum? come on! what a joke.

The threads are 40 pages long, and you have too many people adding their 4 cents worth (inflation from 2 cents last year) and no concrete answers to any newb questions, just pages and pages of opinions.

Volkswebbin is my home smile  TheSamba is just the cute girl at the office that's nice to look at, but you wouldn't want to date anyway because she has horrible taste in music, she's not too bright, and has no sense of humour.

Re: abandonned?

Yeah, that about sums up the Samba.

I had a dilemma the other day though. I was reading hitek71's post in our Tech section about hood rust and the discussion about POR15 and Masterseries etc. I know of a pretty good thread on the Samba where a guy painted pieces of metal with various rust coatings and compared them and even followed up later. Other guys added there experience over time with these products.

I was not sure if I should post a link to this good info because I would be directing people away from Volkswebbin to what may be considered the competition.

What do you guys think?

Re: abandonned?

I lurk often and if I have a question, I'll ask it here.  I contribute to the Samba with old photos, but other than a comment once in a while, don't participate....and dare not ask a question.   If I did so, I'd already know everyone's answer...."search function".

1978 Westfalia--workin' on it.
1979 Triple White convertible--rusty hulk, but can't bring myself to part it out.

Re: abandonned?

Their tech section is very complete. That and the classified's are valuable.

I have posted in the forums many times but only because I had a lot of time on my hands and Volkswebbin wasn't busy enough. I ranted a few times about politeness and the difference between debating and arguing but only got insulted for my troubles. There is a core of good people though, with thick skins.
