Re: Hi...

Glad to hear you doing good Kristine and that school is going good for you.   My wife will be finishing up college this year and she's happy about that, she definatly keeps busy with all the work.

Yep we are still working on the V8 Beetle, but is has slowed down a little because my hours got cut back at work so We don't have much spare money to throw into it, but I'm still working at it.    I got the chassis shortened up and engine sitting on the frame, etc....  I'll have to start welding the body back together soon....  This weekend I worked on casting some urethane leaf spring bushings, welded in the rear shackle mounts and sat the body on the frame just to get an idea of what it will look like.  Plus I think I found a good deal on a transmission for the project too smile

Here are a couple pictures I took:

Here I put the body on the chassis just to get a rough idea of what its going to look like and for placement of the engine.

Here is a picture I took yesterday after I welded in the rear shackle mounts.  I made the chassis about 3" longer than the stock beetle so give a little more room for the engine.

Good luck with everything Kristine!!!

Re: Hi...

I assume you know about run razors to shave runs down before a final sanding.

I used a razor on some of them but I literally had over a hundred runs from long narrow ones to big paths of them, some had 8 to 10 tips in a set. They were in the clear, in the paint and sad to say, some in the primer. I had to take them all the way down, spray the color back on, bake it, sand it, compound, polish and wax it. I just finished tonight. Over a week and a half of wet sanding.

Re: Hi...

Why so much paint? It's okay to have a few runs but why do you have so many?

Re: Hi...

I think the PO did it under an easy up on a dirt road on a windy day with a clogged paint gun. I spent $80 saving the paint job vs 3 grand on a new one. When I do decide to paint I will fix the few body waves at the same time.

Re: Hi...

That makes sense. I painted my own car. I have never seen one of those run blades before, do they work well?

Re: Hi...

kgray,

So sorry to hear you ended up trading in Sally.  I know that wasn't an easy decision for you.  How's the 'new' car treating you?

I've been considering/thinking about selling Ruby.  A lady left a note on her a few weeks ago asking if I would sell her and to keep her ph# if I ever decide to.  I'm just at my wits end with her.  Seems like every month I've got to take her to the shop and I just can't afford it.  Plus I have to get her smogged...she fail miserably the first time and even though I've had some work done to her, I don't know if she'll pass this time.  If not I'm not sure what I'll do.  I'll be facing steep fines if I don't get my registration and insurance transferred...I've already waited way too long.  Ugh!

So refresh my memory, what are you in school for?  I'm gonna guess nursing if there's needles involved : )  How much longer do you have?  If it is for nursing I'm happy to hear it because we need more nurses.

Well, I'm at work so I better get back to it.

Love ya guys!

Re: Hi...

Very funny, 71....  Very, very funny....  This has nothing to do with Satan - it's all done by US, the students!!  smile  smile  Call us what you will.................

goodwill (i think it's Katie???), yes, trading Sally was a tragedy.  I bawled at the car guys place and had to step away from the paperwork and regain my composure. It was not good.  We still see her often (still at the lot) and even stop in once in awhile just to see her and say hi.
My new car is very very good and (knocking on wood) no problems.  It's sort of sadly strange that I'm not freaking out every week about something breaking or about Sally making some new noise or something grinding or stalling......  Plus, new car is getting 27 mpg where Sal was getting 18 mpg.  So definitely better in that way as well.  Just safer and more reasonable for my life right now.
It really is hard to know whether to keep your car, because like you say, it does take a lot of time and seemingly a constant flow of money - even though parts are fairly cheap for them, having to pay someone to put them in ISN'T!  I just didn't have the luxury of being able to have 2 cars and keeping Sally for fun.  2 insurance payments wasn't good, and also space for 2 cars was an issue.  So, in your heart I suppose you know what you should do, whether that be to keep Ruby or sell her.  It's a hard decision, but one that you have to make on your own so you know it was what was right FOR YOU.
School is for medical assisting.  It's like the person who works in the dr office at the front desk, or in the back putting patients in the rooms (height, weight, blood pressure stuff) or in the lab part doing blood draws (which I HATE!) and urine tests.  It's a very multi-faceted position, but I really mostly want to be the office manager - that's what I do.  I'm kinda bossy and take charge and know how to get things organized and done efficiently.  My new favorite saying is "I'm not bossy, I just know what you should be doing."  he he he  smile  I only have until December and I will be done, so it's not really too much longer.

Well, take care and best wishes!
