Well I just think it's funny that every time a country or State etc. thru out, the History of the world imposes arm's control that it lead's to more , arm's violence or Genocide and an even larger proliferation of weapon's !
It's really quite simple ! The argument is as Old as Civilization itself ! Has been proven over and over, again and again !
2 most recent Historical Event's that come to mind are Nazi Germany and the Soviet Block !
Both these country's imposed the strictest of Arm's control and combined there up around estimated 30 million in Genocide that there directly responsible for !
Such as Concentration Camp's and Stallin's Gulag system !
But Lett's not stop there ?????
After Stallin Russia imposed arm's controll to the extent they used Berdan primer's in there Ammo ! ( So it cant be reloaded ) ??
This was to avoid an armed insurrection in there Communist dictator ship !
Yett the right's to the AK-47 were sold to the Chinneese another communist country that imposes the strictest of Arm's control and between the 2 of them they are directly Responsible for the Largest Proliferation of Arm's in the History of Man Kind ! Just with the AK-47 alone !
Not to mention the Norinco Machette Produced by the Chinneeese that sold in the Million's for .19 cent's a peice to War Lord's of African Nation's !
Like Ruhwanda , Sierra Leone etc. As in a Million People woke up one Day and started Hackin the other Million ? As in there neighbour's to Death !
Im Miffed ?? How the blank does this Happen ?? Every Race Every Country it happen's thru out History ?? Usually Precceeeded By some type of Govt Arms control being imposed !
In the 12th Century Japan it was the Sword ?? etc etc.
I state that Genocide is a Entity ! A Phenomonah not unlike a Demon ! Something that Occur's here and there thru out history , and can occur anywhere any time to anyone with little or no reason or none that Mankind can cohmprehend !
It's a Control Issue ! Now who's in Control ! The People or the selected few of a Govt ??
Here in this Country I would like to think it is We the People !!
Man Dont make me go off on my Constitutional Rant's !
As to the Kidd there actually saying he shot 2 people on 2 Seperate Occassion's !
They were lookin for him Previous to the Killing for Shooting someone in the Foot, at a party !! He turned Himself in and was Released !
Month later He supposedly Kill's what I highly suspect to be a Gang Member in front of a Liqour Store ??
Lead's me to Surmise he was being Chased around by Gang Member's ????
Oh and as to the Fire Arm Slash Gun ??? I have a theory that quite possibly might be the Gang members Gun ?? Fighting over a Gun would Explain how the Hell , he shot some one in the Foot ??
Well who know's ? All I know is sound's too me like the Kidd been in the fight for his life , only to fight for his life again in are Blanked up Legal System here in the People's communist Republic of Californication !
Im for one extremely Upsett over it ! Really upsett , Sadd Blank !
Take your Gun control and your Punk Gang Banger's and your Liberal un educated education , and your Nazi storm troopin copp's and stick um !!
Self Defense is a God given Right not a Govt Issued right ! Ever been in a fight for your life you would instinctively Know this !
Funny I grew up in Az ! No Gang Bangers ! No Gun control Every one even Granny packed a Big Lunch !
Across border intoo Communist Calif. ? Gang bangers terrorizeing the street's every where ??? Now the Copp's act like Gang Banger's ? Hmm go figure !
Sean
I respectfully disagree Sean! Do you not have faith in your constitution to prevent the gov't going bad? The countries you mentioned all don't have constitutions as we know them. Ben Franklin and his cohorts went to a lot of trouble wording it to prevent such things.
Arms control works, it's just maybe too late for the USA. It's out of control. If you want statistics, compare gun related deaths between the USA and anywhere else. It's quite shocking.
You need to be able to trust and rely on your police to protect you. Another problem I see is that your cops are mostly locals who may favor friends or have an agenda or conspire with other cops they have known for years. It works better to train cops centrally and ship them to anywhere but their home town. That's why Canada did not have a wild west.
Read about the Yukon gold rush. Mounties confiscated the guns at the border and there was little violence and order was maintained.
Self defense is a right but I wonder how many gun deaths are self defense as compared to otherwise?
jim
Statistics are wonderful things. You can prove any point with them. Even using the exact same numbers. You just need to control which parts you include.
More kids drown in the bathtub in a year than are killed by guns. But it isn't the top story on the news when it happens. And you don't have huge groups trying to outlaw or control bathtubs.
If you love statistics, look at the stats of what happened in Australia when the law abiding citizens turned in their guns, but the criminals didn't. I was in Virginia when their concealed carry law went into effect. I was at the front of the line to get mine. In the first year, violent crimes dropped almost 9%.
Terry
When I was younger I was smoking a cigarette while putting gas in my car, I must have gotten gas on my arm because at one point my arm caught on fire....A Sheriffs Deputy saw this and grabbed a fire extinguisher and started spraying the fire trying to put it out.....SOMEHOW as I was flailing my arm trying to put the flames out I accidentally smacked the deputy in the face with my flaming arm....Everything turned out ok but I got a ticket.........The deputy charged me with "ILLEGAL use of a FIREARM".........

Well for one it looks like someone went down the list and picked the "best and worst years" and posted it. You can still twist #'s anyway you want to appease whomever need be as tigger said.
And Yancey, Sir, I would not lie either even for a laugh (in reference to ticket to firearm, not to make light as said statistics)

The USA has a perfectly good constitution so worrying about the need to overthrow their own gov't is just an excuse.
Part of the problem of guns is that they kill at arms length, or more. A knife is much more personal and difficult to use. It's just too darn easy with a gun.
I don't believe Americans are any more violent than Canadians but when your all armed sh*t happens. If I always carried a gun I may have shot a few people by now in anger.(years ago, I don't get mad anymore)
I know this nice lady from Texas who one day had an argument with a mechanic about a new car battery and she got so mad she ran out to her car and grabbed her gun that was there for "protection". Good thing her sister was waiting in the car and physically restrained her till she cooled off. She told me fender benders can get nasty too. And these are not gang bangers!
Here in Canada by the time you figure out how to commit suicide you may have changed your mind. With a loaded gun around it's a snap decision.
I think a lot of Americans are unwilling to see the problem because it's too late to change anyway. They will never disarm the bad guys. It's like the metric system. Too late now to change due to the cost.
Personally I like guns for sport and protection but I'll do without for the common good. I used to own a shot gun, 22 rifle and a Bryco semi auto hand gun.

Regardless of the police motto, "To Serve and Protect", their function is not, and never has been, to protect you. For every single instance you can point to of the police actually preventing a crime (protecting you) I can point to ten thousand instances of their arriving only after the crime has already been committed.
Most police forces (smaller cities and towns) appreciate the fact that they can't prevent crime and are supportive of the help the get through Second Ammendment to the Constitution. Police in large cities are more militaristic in their thinking and feel they can handle anything that comes along. They don't want armed citizens doing the job they think their SWAT teams and armored vehicles can do.
Most gun deaths are deliberate in nature - the victim was targeted by the killer. If guns were not available, the victim would still have been targeted but the weapon of choice would have been either a sharp (knife, etc.) or a blunt (club, etc.) instrument.
How many ways can this be interpreted?
jim
Several ways. But you might be better served to post those countries' VIOLENT deaths (all weapons) for SINGLE years. Also, suicide deaths are a different animal; if a gun isn't available then other means are used.
