Topic: '71 Super inside rear vents now available

I have had these vents made in fiberglass at a local shop because they couldn't be bought. I had what may have been the last pair on earth that were fully intact. They were very delicate though and were destroyed to make the mold.

The total price with tax and shipping will be $100 (Cnd) unless you live really far. I am only getting a free pair and I have to handle payments and do the shipping. PM me if interested.

They are black here due to the release gel coat. I decided to get them made paintable rather than trying to match the original, which were discolored. A light rub with a scotch brite pad and paint them any color. The auto paint will also protect against sunlight which destroyed the original.

Hiya Jim,

Nicely done!  You are to be commended for taking the in initiative and getting this project off the ground.

A thought.............Had you considered putting a parts house (CIP1 comes to mind as being in the area) in touch with the fibreglass guy and making these vents "permanently" available?

Yes I thought of that with CIP1 or German Supply in Toronto. German Supply is a small company that has hard to get and reconditioned stuff. Only place I know of to get all the original type brass spade connectors with locking tabs and gas heater parts.

Well I shipped my first pair and lost some money!

So the price has to be $85 + 12% tax + $15 for packaging and shipping + 5% Paypal charge = $120 Cnd. (which gives you yanks a break)

are these the vents on both sides of the rear window  on the inside?
if so,they are available from wolfsberg west,   i bought 2 sets almost 1 1/2 yrs ago for my 72 super and another project.  my old ones came out ok, but were very discolored from the years of sun exposure... not white anymore. i wasn't aware they were hard to find

'72 is different. '71 had one year only vents. They are one piece rather than three small pieces. (as in the pic above!)

I own a VW 1302S made in 1971. Next to the inside rear window there are 4 openings. I believe this vent configuration was only made a few months and was replaced by the 3 openings. I have covered them up with the lining, but much rather have them open. I tried to make the vents that are available smaller and glue them together, but it does not look good. The ones you have must be the solution. Wonder if you still have them.

Yes, I can have them made as needed. I had a fiberglass shop make a mold of my intact but crumbling vents and thought I might as well share. I don't make any money but of course the shop does. They are handmade and very good quality.

I have moved away from the city where the fiberglass shop is so it will be a little more difficult to get the vents made which I suppose translates to more time. I may have to wait for a couple of orders, not sure yet.
