Yeah...some people don't know the true value of a Beetle...or they are hoping someone doesn't know the true value of a Beetle.
But of course on E-Bay or thesamba.com...it is very easy to comparision shop.
The interesting part about this Beetle...is that if it was in real nice shape the asking price may not be too insane...but take a look at that heater channel/rocker panel rust...and the "classy" non-matching seats...especially since the drivers seat appears to be non-VW.

I don't know....I'd probably buy it simply for the clear yellow dizzy cap on a 009........

Almost as ridiculous is the Golden Beetle Car Co. That is always trying to sell cars on eBay. For most of those cars, the starting bid is around $10,000. They put nice paint on the cars and redo the interior, but from the pics they do not appear to be doing anything fancy, certainly not a body off restoration. And if you look closely at the interior pics of some of their cars you can see shoddy workmanship. The headliner on a 1975 Super beetle they redid was messed up and they had covered over the interior flow through air vents located on either side of the rear window. I also noticed in one of the pics that one side of the rear window defogger was hooked up, while the other side was missing the wire. Some of their rear decklids are wrong for the years as well.
It may just be me, but if you are asking $10,000 dollars for a beetle it should either be
A) Completely original and have less than 100 original miles on it. Or B) should be a BODY OFF 100% original/stock restoration. Original color, interior, etc. It's all in the details.
This is a "make an offer" auction. I made an offer of $995 and was turned down.
I would have assumed that an offer of $995 would have been rejected, since the seller is asking a Buy It Now price of $4499.
David...did you really want it for $995??...what if the seller would have accepted your offer?
I bet if you offer something close to $4000 (even though it is not worth it)...I bet the seller will be more tempted to accept! ; )

Yes, I would have paid $995 for it. It apparently needs a lot of work but I just want a rat to stick a T4 engine in.
Come on guys it seems like a good deal, I mean the only problem listed is an oil leak. Plus that new carb was listed twice so it must be extra new.
And I'm sure all the parts that were replaced, such as the brakes, were replaced with quality parts by someone who knew what they were doing. I mean with a car in that type of shape you would expect that all mechanical work would be top notch~!
HEY HEY HEY!!! Whats WRONG with you people!! THIS car can be driven EVERYDAY! it said so! ALSO it has a new horn, you can see the horn button mounted on the dash there with duct tape protecting the wiring! You cant get MUCH more professionally restored than that!! Also has a casette player!! SHEESH.....You dont see MANY of those these days!! ANDDDDDDDDDDD it has "REUSABLE" intake boots!! YEEE HAAAA!!!! I dont know about you people, but i think it is WAY underpriced.....Oil Leak....Big Deal...I mean what could THAT be with the engine just being overhauled and all....probably REAL simple to fix....AND "FABRICATED" exhaust donut seals!! DAMN! You people just dont know a deal when you see it, do you? I bet SEAN wont let this deal pass HIM up....RIGHT SEAN?? LMAO!
Yancey
I wonder what those intake boots could be REUSED for after they are removed from your car. Ahh I know! That plumbing project that you've been putting off for months!!!
As someone who lives in Ohio, I can attest that any Beetle that isn't falling apart will be sometime double the price (or more) as the same Bug in Cali. However... yes, he is dreaming.
I bought a decent '68 in May for $2000, when the same quality of Bug from Ohio was $4200 (I know... I almost bought it). After I threw in $800 for shipping I had a decent Bug. (Other than a few engine issues which required some tweaking.)
It's like the old Garage Sale theory... only expect to get 50-65% of the asking price, cause the point is to sell it. If you don't wanna sell it, then don't list it.
BUT... like I said, a Bug in Ohio will be at least $1500 higher than the same Bug in Cali would be... all thing equal. This Bug (unfortunately) doesn't seem so equal, and the rust is starting to show up.
Since it's in Ohio I would say it's worth about $2750... no more.
thats yet another reason for the term "killa kali"
you cant beat california for many reasons and vws are almost top of the list.
I am also in Ohio...and I wouldn't pay $2750 for it...I might go $1000...but not much higher.
It has a bunch of issues that's going to cost $$$ to fix.
Just my personal opinion...I would much rather go the West coast route...buying a Cali, Nevada, or Arizona car...and either have it shipped or drive it home...which is exactly what I did with my current Beetle.

I'll 2nd the $2750 being to damn much and I live in Louisville, Ky so not that far from Ohio. And even for $1000 I think you could find a better car in this part of the country.
