Topic: 5 lug rear brakes

I have a question for those of you who know about the older beetles,
as I have always had the newer 4 lug variety. I just bought a sand
rail, and it has a swing axel with 5 lug drums on the rear. I want
to buy new shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, and hardware kits for it,
but I have no idea what year car it came from. It is registered as
a 63 VW Dunebuggy, but how can I make sure to get the right parts?
Are all the rear brakes from the early 60's the same?? Any help you
could give me would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: 5 lug rear brakes

Andrew: Looking at the now-classic "Rocky Mountain Motorworks"
catalog breakout, for Front brakes it appears that 1958 thru 1964
were the same and 1965 thru 1978 (non-super beetle) were the same.
For rear brakes, the year ranges are 1958 thru 1964; 1965 thru 1967;
and 1968 thru 1979. Does this help? How so. Clancy
