Topic: Off topic (sorry, guys!) Eagle Talon

Thanks to you who have given me some welcome back. It has been a
long winter, I have done battle with the city about my "abandoned"
'66 being an environmental hazard. I fixed their "wagen", I cleaned
out my shop and moved the whole project inside, something I should
have done from the start (3 years ago). I am 2/3 done, just
metalwork on the body and then the decision to paint myself or farm
it out.

Well, my question. My youngest son, the only one of three that shows
automotive interest and skill has two cars. His newest is a green
92 Eagle-Talon (Mitsubishi origin, I think) He has done some major
work on the engine (this kid is 19 years old) and it runs and can be
driven. But when it is in park or neutral and warms up, the idle
cycles up and down. Now I am a dyed-in-the-wool VW fan (although my
Olds Silhouette gets me to work on the ice and snow and in the
summer heat)and I do not know squat about these new-fangled
fuel-injection systems. Several others have indicated that he may
have a vacuum leak somewhere in that spagetti bowl behind the
engine. Any of you good VW guys done any moonlighting with these
kind of engines and does the vacuum leak seem a logical place to
look? When you put a load on, (in gear, a/c on, etc) the engine
slows down and stops surging, but when you shift into neutral or
park, it starts surging and falling back in idle. I know this is
taking up good VW bandwidth, but can anyone help me be a hero with
the kid, he might be my last hope to have another gear-head in the

Vacuum leak would be my first guess. Check all the rubber vacuum
lines for cracks, make sure they're all well seated...
