Topic: 6/12 Volt Flywheel

I have an original SP 6V motor that I am thinking about putting into
a 1970 Beetle. Before doing so, I want to convert it to 12V
including changing the flywheel. Other than the electrical, is the
conversion just a matter of taking off the 6V flywheel and replacing
it with a 12V one or is this operation even feasible? If it is not
feasible (because of shaft size or whatever), what special steps do
I need to take to put a 12V motor (with a 6V flywheel) into a 12V
1970 Beetle? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have put a 12 volt flywheel on a 40hp motor, but you need to get
the specs and have it machined to match the 40hp motor. An
experienced shop should know this. I think it is about 3mm. This
cost me 5 bucks last time I had it done for a 70 sedan. Takes about
5 minutes...Craig

Re: 6/12 Volt Flywheel

Craig: 12 volt Flywheel will use an "O" ring and the dia of the I.D.
must be opened up to 2.165" Just the first bit of metal that goes
over the crank. Thats closest to the Flywheel thrust surface.
