I have a very good friend and VW nut who has a 73 Beetle sedan with a
2332cc. He is running the weber 44's on it. The engine is a Bernie
Bergmann built engine and he has well over 26,000 miles on it. On
the highway he is still getting 28-30 mpg unless he gets on it then
it drops off quite a bit. As far as HP he has never had it dyno'd
but he is running in the low 16's 1/4 mile. He would be much faster
but due to the limited flow of a stock gas line the engine starves
it's self about half way down the track. As far as driving the car,
it is definately a different experience. It is fast off the line,
60-80mph in no time flat without down shifting, surprizes the heck
out of a lot of Honda's, but you have to be careful. That much HP in
the back of a car that light and if your not careful and don't use
your head you'll loose it easily.
If you do go that route with your bug, have fun, but most of all use
your head, before you even think of putting that engine into the car
upgrade your brakes!!!! You need to be able to get out of trouble
faster than you can get into it.

Don't waste your money on 48's, Go buy a guide that will help you
decide what is best for your needs. The pros and cons should be
weighed before you do anything radical to your car. You could end up
with a useless driver. I am under the impression that bolt on HP is
best and will allow your engine to last longer. If you want a drag
racer that is whole differnt story. But a street runner you have to
be concerned with how long will my engine last, you are talking
about an engine that will last minutes, and in drag racing that is a
long time. On the street you will be back buying and building
another engine in no time.
